Description
This 28" necklace is made of a combination of antique faceted Idar-Oberstein carnelian beads, ancient excavated carnelian from West Africa, vintage patterned Yoruba brass beads, and patterned brass caps. The 4 faceted beads at the pendant and clasp are from the Idar-Oberstein factory in Germany, made around the 1800s to early 1900s for the African trade. The larger round carnelian beads are from a strand of ancient excavated beads found in Mali. The tiny carnelian spacers are contemporary. The brass pattern pendant, the large cylindrical beads, and the small patterned round beads are vintage Yoruba brass beads. These beads are hollow with unique and attractive patterns. The y are made by the Yoruba people in Nigeria. The pendant is 45 mm long and is 13mm wide at the base. The cylindrical Yoruba beads and faceted Idar Oberstein beads at the pendant are about 28mm long. The small Yoruba round beads are about 6mm in diameter. The excavated carnelian beads are about 10-12 mm in diameter.
